We were watching The Apartment (1960) and my husband pointed how some eerie similarities between the overdose scene in the movie and a similar scene in Eyes Wide Shut (1999). Both involved Christmas movies centered around professionals where a doctor is helping an endangered young woman who is suffering at the hands of the abusive men in their lives.
The tone of both movies are very different but I’ve never seen anyone acknowledge this overlap and I’m curious if Kubrick had it in mind.
